Luminaries Interactive

I had the opportunity to work on the Brookfield Luminaries Christmas Experience with the Lab at Rockwell for a few years in a row. I was engaged to develop and help design the interaction around a fully interactive “Maestro” instrument. A Sculpted conductors stand, embedded with LEDs and a sensor, allowing guests to control play and explore lighting effects and modes on the illuminated canopy.

The experience was developed to integrate with the legacy Java application, to create lighting affects and Maestro outputs on the canopy. The Maestro interactions and embedded lighting effects, were developed in a unity environment, including a 3d visualizer.

My second engagement consisted of accessibility testing for the experiences’ make a wish interaction. A Kinect camera embedded in a large box, with a light embedded to mirror the canopy. Visitors raise their arms to make a wish, generating a visual effect in the canopy above. Each wish results in a donation to a charitable organization.
I was tasked with testing and generating an approach to make sure that the Kinect body detection worked with a variety of bodies, clothing and facial masks. These tests and final build were all done in Unity.
